The Watchman on the Wall
“But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.” Ezekiel 33:2b-6
We creation science speakers, debaters, and educators within the Church at large have a special mission. I’m not going to say that it is the only mission of the Church, nor even the most important one. We just keep hold of that which is the most foundational to our faith and to our Book of the faith, the Holy Word of God. Yep. The things we fight for to protect and preserve were once thought just second nature to the belief structure of all Bible-believing Christians. But that assumption lost all force long decades ago. It is not a forgone conclusion any longer that Genesis is real history and that it is scientifically valid. So, the Church needs our help.
They don’t need much from us – just a little encouragement here and there that the faith once delivered to the saints is … well, still true. The Wednesday night leader of our men’s group at church recently pointed out that truth – doesn’t change. Even if our trust and/or belief in it does.
Genesis is true. The Bible is true. We may trust it. We have other kinds of encouragers within the Church, besides the creationists. We have many “watchmen on the wall” that are to keep a lookout for whatever untruths may try to breach the walls of the household of faith and make captives once again of those who have been set free.
It’s an ugly business watching out for the wolves and the spirits of doubt that they carry. But, yes, somebody’s gotta do it. But if we are faithful, and if we offer up to the Church the encouragement and confirmation of the veracity of the Scriptures that we bear within ourselves … well then, the miracles can begin to happen again. The discouraged get re-encouraged. The weak become strong. All because of the Truth of this Word. Yep. That’s all it is.
We have no glory – the watchmen of all of the Biblical doctrines of the Church. But He does. He has all of the glory. His people just need to see a glimpse and they’ll know. He is God. He is Creator. He is Savior. Those of us all along the bulwarks of the walls of this City, must all be doing our jobs in this time of darkness and of warfare. The Father of Lies is hoping that “if possible, even the elect may be deceived.” Don’t lose heart in making the stand that you are called to make for the Kingdom. You won’t regret it in the end. May God grant you good success as you man your stations on the walls of the Mighty Fortress of the Church. Amen.
Keep thinking and praying.
