Death of Death

Matt Miles • January 30, 2019

“Why is creation ministry so important?” “We should focus on the Gospel instead of Genesis.” These are but a couple of the questions and comments we receive every once in a while. There are some that have the opinion that Genesis is secondary to other aspects of Scripture. Yet, as you know from the years of ministry spent carrying out our calling here at CTF, we understand the importance that Genesis has to the Gospel and for life. If we don’t understand Genesis correctly, then we may have issues with Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.

The crux of the issue is always sin and death. When we deal with time from a Biblical chronology vs. an evolutionary timeframe, the inevitable is asked, “Why are you so demanding on a young time scale?” Our reply is, “How long has death been here, and why?” Sometimes the response is a puzzled look and silence. Has death been present on earth as the mechanism of advancement, weeding out the less fit and weaker while allowing the more fit to survive and thus progress to higher life forms through evolutionary history? Or was death placed as a curse to sin at the beginning? A person’s worldview on death is pivotal to his salvation. We find often that most of us have never connected those dots, yet they are vital for our salvation in Christ.

Romans 5:12 states that “…just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned…”. And in 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 we find, “For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.”

Jesus Christ came and paid our ransom with His blood. His death was mandatory for our salvation, because it is the wage for our sin (Rom. 6:23). If death has no connection to sin, then the cross is utter rubbish. Evolution should have no place in a Christian’s worldview on the basis that it degrades to useless the very work of salvation. Our Creator paid the price for sin (death), ransoming us and by His blood imparting life to those that acknowledge the need for it.

This ministry is entering our 30th year, and we’re ready to drive this point home more than ever in a world that is blinded in sin and drowning in death. Even in the church some continue to hold onto worldviews that are contrary to the Gospel and Genesis. Please continue to lift us up in prayer, that our message is clear and bold on behalf of our Creator and Savior Jesus Christ’s work of salvation. As always, this ministry would not be able to operate without your support in this battle. Thank you for joining us in sharing the Gospel thru Genesis.

Artemis - the Greek goddess of wild animals, the hunt, vegetation, chastity and childbirth. 1 While the Greek goddess may not be openly worshiped anymore, her name has now been irrevocably linked to the lesser light, just as her mythological twin brother Apollo’s was in the last century. Even so, it was not without Providence showing Who is really present in the affairs of men. NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has been focused on having a prolonged presence in space with the work of the International Space Station (ISS), so until recently lunar exploration took a backseat. The Artemis missions of NASA have changed that. They began with the first launch in 2022 when an unmanned spacecraft orbited the Moon and returned successfully for the first time since Apollo 17 in 1972. The plan for the Artemis program is to establish an ongoing manned presence on the Moon. In upcoming missions astronauts will return to the surface, marking another generation of Moon exploration. As we press forward, may we never forget the sacrifice of many lives throughout our ongoing space program, and may we remember it is only possible by the ordered design and engineered forces at work in creation by the Lord God our Creator. Many of you may have watched, as I did, as four brave astronauts were launched from the clutches of Earth’s gravity on April 1, 2026. It was hard to describe how proud I was as an American on that day. This country, founded on God-ordained rights and privileges, was the first and only country to place His image bearers on the surface of the lesser light years ago, and we are headed back again. We are literally doing what the Lord asked of us from the Genesis 1:28 mandate in studying His creation. As much as I know that not all who work for NASA have this worldview, there are several that do, praise the Lord! On Artemis II launch day, one of the four astronauts on board was our brother in Christ - Victor Glover, mission pilot.

In Genesis 12 the Lord calls Abraham (Abram) to be the father of a great nation. This all happened to Abraham at 75 years old. Some might say that is too late in life to start something new, especially a calling of that magnitude. Yet that was not the overwhelming part to me; that would come in verse 7 when the Lord said the land would be his offspring’s. Wait, what?! The Lord had a plan and His Providence would guide Abraham, even when Abraham did not have offspring and did not wait on the Lord. I have to wonder how I would have reacted to such a call and covenant. As we know from Psalms, the Lord guides and sustains all by His Providence for His name sake, which we are focusing on this year. But does Providence act on our timing? When God called Abraham, he had no children. Yet the promise given was that his offspring would be a great nation in a land saved for them. What we know now is that Abraham wouldn’t have his son Isaac until he was 100 years old, a full 25 years after the covenant was made. Most of the time we expect the Lord’s hand working in our life to be immediate, but that is not always the case. In some cases it might take years to experience the Providence coming to fruition. Remember Genesis 21:2 states Isaac’s birth was at the “appointed time.” This understanding should give us peace as we rely on Providence and, at times, are called to patience. Providence was again on display for us to understand that even in obedient sacrifice He will be glorified, as Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son, Isaac, who was inherently tied to the covenant of the Lord. Abraham was faithful in all aspects, even when most of us might say “no way” to that sacrifice to the Lord. Yet at the right time, through faithfulness in Abraham’s obedience, there was Providence providing behind him in the ram. Our faithful obedience sometimes feels like a tough ask from the Lord, but rest assured He is there, ready to lift up His name through us. Providence continued through time, 100 years later, after Isaac had his sons, Jacob and Esau. Then Jacob was blessed by the Lord with 12 sons, one of which was Joseph, who was sold to Egypt by his brothers. You probably recall all the ups and downs of Joseph’s life, yet he was faithful to the Lord throughout them all. Remember, there was a covenant at stake. The Lord, through His Providence, made sure he had Joseph where He needed him to save the great nation of Israel from famine. This Providence secured the covenant line to continue to Christ. Many times throughout history Providence has guided and protected His covenant, and now you and I can be blessed with inclusion in His great nation through Christ. If it had not been so, then we literally have no assurance of our salvation. Praise be to our Lord Jesus Christ that His Providence is faithful for all eternity, so we may know peace and have confidence in the promised destiny. Our ministry here at CTF has always emphasized the importance of Genesis 12, Abraham’s covenant. We share there is no difference in importance of Genesis 1-11 over chapter 12 and through the entirety of the Bible. The whole Bible is inspired to be trustworthy and to show His Providence throughout history for His name’s sake and also for our salvation. Blessings.
