This fossil is based on one of the most complete Pteranodon specimens ever found. CT scans were used to prototype this fossil, which were then scaled to match the largest known Pteranodon, which had a 24-foot wingspan (specimen FMNH PR 464: described by Othniel Marsh in 1876). The unique take-off pose was prposed by Dr. Mark Witton and articulated by Triebold Paleontology. The notably prominent crest of this species is believed to have assisted in balancing the enormous skull as well as steering the airplane-sized body through the air.
